Quelle: TALK ABOUT EPPING
Town Magazine Winter 2016
Epping High Street filled with the sound of music on 2nd September, when the wind band from Epping’s twin town, Eppingen, visited. Crowds gathered for the free concert on the piazza as the Stadtkapelle played an exciting variety of music, from traditional German marches to contemporary music, with members of the 35-strong band also showing an amazing talent for singing.
The Eppingen beer ‚Palmbräu‘ proved very popular, together with Church’s bratwurst BBQ, making a real festival feel to the evening. The enthusiastic audience included Town Mayor Les Burrows who said: „It was just a wonderful event, they were very, very good.“
Ten years since the Stadtkapelle last played in Epping, the band was invited by the Epping Forest Band. Chairman Michael Wood said: „There is a very strong friendship between the two bands, who have exchanged visits ever since a member of our band ‚discovered‘ Eppingen more than 30 years ago. The Epping Forest Band will be playing at Eppingen’s Altstadtfest in July next year.“
On 3rd September, the Stadtkapelle also played on the steps of the Albert Memorial in Kensington Gardens, a rare and „wonderful experience“ for the German band. A trip around London including the Globe Theatre, a visit to the Queen Elizabeth Hunting Lodge in Epping Forest an an Indian meal completed the weekend. The members of the Epping Forest Band were presented with mugs inscribed with the logos of both bands to commemorate the visit. Marko Vischer spoke on behalf of the Stadtkapelle Eppingen saying: „It was a great weekend with lots of new experiences and impressions. We are already looking forward to having our friends in Eppingen next year.“
